If anyone knew what they were getting when they signed on with UBX Cloud, it was Madison Heights-based Site Development Inc.

That’s because CEO Steve Panovski’s skills and personal traits were literally at home at Site Development, where he was a full-time employee prior to launching UBX Cloud in 2008.

So how did Steve’s former employer feel about becoming his first client?

“I’m pretty sure we were the guinea pig,” said chief financial officer Clay Schultz.

But if you’re willing to be a guinea pig, you have to be pretty confident the experiment is going to work out well.

“His problem-solving abilities and his desire to please people – that’s what he wants,” Schultz says. “He’s going to try to solve your problem however he can. He used to go around and ask, ‘What can I do for you today?’ He was always communicating about what needed to be done, and asking how he could do it better.”

Site Development is an underground contractor involved in services such as land grading, excavation and sanitary sewer work. As the company’s technology needs have progressed, Schultz says UBX Cloud has played a critical role in ensuring the company’s technology empowers its operations while maintaining a secure posture.

The result has been much greater efficiency in functions such as workflow, communication between projects, change orders and resolution of problems. Steve laid the groundwork for all that when he was an employer, and has taken it to a different level leading the UBX team to serve Site Development as a valued client.

One of the most challenging times was when COVID forced the entire team to work from home, and it was critical that the technology be up to the task.

“A lot of people at home had access to the cloud, but they didn’t have full functionality,” Schultz says. “They had to go through and format printers and scanners so people had what they needed at home. The UBX team made that happen.”

And in the years since, Site Development has trusted UBX to enhance its technology so it’s easier for project managers to hand off information in the field, and the information necessary for job changes is easily accessible and simple to work with.

“You can make the changes on the fly in the system, and right away the foreman has it,” Schultz says. “It makes it a lot easier and quicker – more efficient and detailed. We don’t miss as much as we used to when we’re handing off a job from one foreman to another. That used to be a nightmare.”

At the same time, UBX Cloud has enhanced and simplified data storage, moving Site Development from a system that saw everything in a storage closet to a reliable cloud setup with plenty of capacity – and of course, solid security.

“We’ve never been hacked,” Schultz says. “And every time there’s some sort of anomaly, like someone clicking on a phishing email they shouldn’t, the UBX team steps in and cuts it off at the pass. The way they’ve structured certain things, there are multiple fences people have to go through to get to us.”

No one is getting through that many walls, especially with the UBX team waiting for them if they try it.

So Site Development is more efficient, more precise and more secure – with greater data storage capacity than ever alongside first-rate professional management of that data.

You hate to see a good employee leave, but in this case, Steve Panovski’s move to establish UBX Cloud gave Site Development access to something even better – and they can share that something better with other companies who can benefit from it as well.
